Dramaturgy

An experienced and enthusiastic dramaturg and researcher responsible for providing historical and cultural context to directors, actors, designers and audiences. Additionally specializing in the development of new work, advising writers and other creatives on story structure, plot, character development and tone . Excited about opportunities to engage audiences through interactive lobby displays and post-show talkbacks. Dramaturg responsibilities frequently pair with production roles. Recipient of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas 2020 Field Grant for the Development of an original work called Sandbranch.

Client: August Wilson House (Pittsburgh, PA)

  • Provided support for the development of two plays (Fannie and Aberdeen and Netarine) by first ever August Wilson House Playwright-in-Residence Syd Rushing. 

  • Met with the playwright virtually and provided extensive notes on characters, story arch and ending.

  • Facilitated staged reading and audience talkback of both plays in Pittsburgh.

Client: Urbanite Theatre (Sarasota, FL)

  • Provided feedback for 2 of the 3 selected playwrights for the virtual Modern Works Festival (Nick and the Prizefighter by Kamilah Bush and A Skeptic and a Bruja by Rosa Fernandez).

  • Faciliated post-show talkbacks for each show.

  • Participated in virtual panels related to the festival.

Client: Naked Empire Bouffon Company (San Francisco, CA)

  • Collaborated closely with the performer and director of a one-person bouffon show. (How to Catch a Karen by Sabrina Wenske and Nathanial Justiano)

  • During the 6 month commitment, supported the development of the play from scratch using dramaturgical methods that place emphasis on embodied practices. 

  • Facilitated post-show talkback throughout opening run. 

  • Devised online with the intention to be performed in-person in the near future. 

  • Currently being performed in festivals across the country.

Client: University of Central Missouri (Warrensburg, MO)

  • Support the University Theatre Department in their virtual production of a new play (Tilikum by Kristiana Rae Colon)

  • Interviewed the playwright in order to understand the abolitionist intentions behind the piece. 

  • Conduct a workshop on the Future of Dramaturgy for cast, crew and faculty. 

  • Participate in activities related to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

  • KCACTF Winner: Colleges and Universities at the Vanguard, Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Award, Special Achievement: Overall Production and more.

Client: Bay Area Playwrights Festival (San Francisco, CA)

  • Support the entire creative team behind a New Play premiering as part of the Bay Area Playwrights Festival.

  • Participate in festival panels and talkbacks

  • Created a "virtual lobby display" utilizing slides that merged images from Black art and jazz (like the one pictured to the left).

  • Teaching Artist for the August Wilson In-School Residency Program (2019- 2021)

Client: Critical Mass Performance Group

  • Compile research related to the Virgin Mary for devising a new work (Mariology by Nancy Keystone and Critical Mass Performance Group)

  • Provide input on embodied exercises leading to the development of the performance.

  • Create an engaging lobby display that informed the audience and also provided opportunity for audience feedback.

  • Facilitate post-show talkback
